2022 WAEC Result: St’ Charles Alumni gift teachers 1.5Million cash for students performance
The St Charles Old Boys Association, Monday presented a cash gift of N1.5milion to members of staff of St Charles Grammar School Osogbo, Osun state for their effort towards the academic performance of their students in the recent West African Examination Council (WAEC) result released.
Speaking at the presentation and award ceremony in the school premises, the President of the association, Charlian Tade Adekunle noted that students of the school scored 96 percent in both English and mathematics in the exam.
“What we are doing today is to reward the teachers who have taught the students.
“In the last (2022) WAEC result, we scored 96% including the English and mathematics and it have never been that good in the last 30 years.
“So what we have been telling the teachers is that they need to do more, so we are here to appreciate the teachers. It’s a token of something we are giving them to do more.
“Apart from supporting the teachers, we have also been supporting the school infrastructure. We have an ICT centre built by the 1981 set to mark their 40th anniversary worth over 25 million naira.
“The road to the school is also being sponsored by other sets.
“What we are doing is to support the school infrastructure, we know that government can not do it alone, so what we are doing is to contribute our own quota as old boys of St Charles Grammar School School Osogbo”, he said.
While addressing pressmen at the end of the event, the St Charles Old Boys Association, Board of Trustee Chairman, Charlian Sola Omopo noted that the association had decided to support the school since government can not do it alone.
He said “We have been planning this for long because we noticed that the school has been deteriorating, in our time we always had 100%.
“Things later started getting bad even to the time when the government started paying examination fees, some of the students don’t even bother and thats why we decided to create a system where we get more teachers taking this students and make them realise the purpose.
“That if any student passes, we will sponsor them in the university and we told the teachers that if any teacher could train the students to pass, we will compensate them.
“So we are here to redeem the pledge.”
