2023 Election: Collaboration with NYSC brought sanity to Nations Electoral Process – Osun REC
The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Osun State, Dr Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, has stated that the INEC collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps has brought sanity to the electoral process in Nigeria. He said that the Commission has succeeded in earning the trust of Nigerians seeing that their votes now count.
Agboke said this at the INEC sensitisation at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Thursday. He made it known that the periodic engagement of Corps Members while in Camp was to enlighten them and ensure they are armed with correct information that will help ensure their safety and performance during elections.
Agboke, in an interactive session with the 2022 Batch C Stream II Corps Members took them through the basics of the electoral process and their roles of as adhoc staff. He enlightened them on the meaning and functions of the Bimodial Voters Accreditation System, BVAS, what accreditation means and the importance of the Oath of Neutrality.
He charged the Corps Members to attend all trainings and to be patriotic by ensuring they participate in the electoral process as adhoc staff of the Commission, assuring them of the timely payments of their entitlements as Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officer.
He charged them to display a high level of discipline and integrity, remaining as good ambassadors of their family, the NYSC and INEC.
He concluded by appreciating the State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab, for inviting the Commission to come around and enlighten the Corps Members. He assured her of INEC preparedness in receiving the Corps Members as adhoc staff of the Commission ahead of the General Elections coming up in February 2023.
The Head of Department INEC ICT, Mrs Olufunke Toki took to the stage to enlighten Corps Members on the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in a practical session enjoyed by all present.
The sensitisation had in attendance the State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab, Management team of INEC, among others.
