2023: Military, Police, NOA assures INEC of their support, co-operation in the forthcoming election
The Osun State Commander of the Headquarters Engineer Construction Command, Brigadier General Kabiru Falalu Suleiman has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of their support, collaboration and cooperation during the forthcoming general election in the country.
The Commander stated this on Monday during INEC’s visit to the Headquarters Engineer Construction Command in Ede.
He expressed optimism that the military will not hesitate to do everything within it’s statutory right to ensure peaceful and save election.
According to Brig. General Kabiru, “the military is a stakeholder in election and will continue to collaborate and support the electoral body.
“We are prepared for the forthcoming election and we will work with you to ensure that there will be a credible election.
“We are assuring you and your staff of our support and cooperation and also ensure that everyone lives in peace and harmony.
“As regards the constant attack on INEC offices, the most important thing is a very credible intelligence that will help the security agencies.”
In the same vein, The Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Kehinde Longe and the State Director of National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr Abiodun Omikunle also pledged their support and collaboration to INEC towards the peaceful conduct of the next general election.
In his remarks, The Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC in Osun State, Dr Mutiu Agboke appreciated them for their regular cooperation, undying and ceaseless support at all times.
He tasked the military and Police to be on the lookout and arrest those involved in buying and selling of PVCs so as to curb this act in the country while the National Orientation Agency, NOA are to talk, present the advocacy message to the people in the most pleasant manner.
“Election is a multi layer activities, it is not only INEC that is organizing the election, other stakeholders are also involved in the process and wisdom here for us in Osun State is that we must ensure that we carry everybody along in what we do.
“One of the diseases that INEC is confronting is the issue of vote buying and selling plus the purchase/buying of PVCs. This is being done everywhere in Nigeria.
“What is the politicians buying PVCs for? Do they think that third party can use it to vote on behalf of the rightful owner? It is not possible. Buying of PVC is a tactical way of not allowing someone to vote on election day and in confronting that it is the electorates/masses that we have to talk to by telling them not to allow anyone to prevent them from voting.
“Whatever the amount that is given to buy your conscience it is because you are of a great value to them on election day and that is why they are looking for you. So we are now saying that you should not sell your PVCs”, he stated.
Among other places visited in Osogbo by INEC are Nigerian Police Command and National Orientation Agency.
