The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has commenced the disbursement of ₦1.856 billion as terminal and death benefits to 728 beneficiaries, marking another significant milestone in the state’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
The development was announced by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, FCA, during a briefing with beneficiaries at the Pension House. He disclosed that the payment covers gratuity, death benefits, and outstanding death pension balances.
According to Dr. Shitu, ₦1,546,000,171.79 has been allocated to 607 retirees, while ₦289,793,204.10 will be received by 96 relatives of civil servants who died while in active service. An additional ₦21,082,150.38 has been approved for 25 retirees who passed away shortly after retirement.
Describing the Jigawa Contributory Pension Scheme as the leading pension system in the country, Dr. Shitu said the scheme has earned its reputation through its consistency and timely settlement of obligations to retirees and families of deceased workers. He emphasized that this achievement reflects the state government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring financial stability for its civil servants beyond active service.
The Executive Secretary commended Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, for his steadfast support and the sweeping reforms introduced since assuming office. He revealed that the present administration has injected billions of naira into the scheme, significantly strengthening its sustainability and boosting the confidence of workers approaching retirement.
Beneficiaries at the event expressed profound gratitude for the prompt payment of benefits, noting that the support will help them meet pressing financial needs and enhance their quality of life after service.
The latest disbursement forms part of ongoing government efforts to honor the contributions of civil servants and uphold their dignity through a secure and reliable retirement system.
