The Guri Local Government Council has delivered relief materials worth millions of naira to victims of the recent farmers–herders clash in Yalwan Musari village, where food items and household properties were destroyed in a fire reportedly set by herdsmen.
The distribution exercise, held in Yalwa community, was led on behalf of the Council Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Umar Danbarde, by the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Abubakar Muhammad. Addressing the affected residents, he conveyed the council’s sympathy and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property.
Hon. Muhammad called for calm and urged all parties to embrace peace, forgiveness, and unity, stressing that stability was crucial for the development of the area.
The relief materials provided by the council include 15 bags of rice, 30 bags of gari, 50 cartons of spaghetti, 6 bundles of mats, 2 bags of sugar, 2 bags of kuli-kuli, 2 jerrycans of vegetable oil, 15 cartons of Maggi cubes, and 3 bags of salt.
Hon. Danbarde, through his representative, assured the beneficiaries that additional support from the Jigawa State Emergency Relief Agency would soon reach the community. He further called on lawmakers, donor organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians to urgently extend assistance to the victims.
In his remarks, the Councillor representing Musari Ward, Hon. Salisu Isyaku, commended the council for its swift intervention, pledging that the materials would be distributed fairly and strictly to those affected in accordance with government directives.
The Village Head of Yalwa, Shamsu Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to Governor Umar Namadi, the Council Chairman, and the Emir of Hadejia for their continuous support since the incident. He also thanked members of the public for their concern and offered prayers for protection against future tragedies.
Meanwhile, the victims have appealed to the state government for compensation to help cushion the losses they suffered during the clash.
