Kaduna—Her Excellency, Ambassador (Dr.) Amina Umar Namadi, Wife of the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, has called for sustained collective action to ensure the passage of the Reserved Seat for Women Bill, describing it as a critical pathway to inclusive governance and national development.

Ambassador Namadi made the call in Kaduna during the North-West Sensitisation Programme on Advocacy for the Passage of the Reserved Seat for Women Bill, which drew political leaders, women advocates, policymakers, and other stakeholders from across the region. The programme was aimed at mobilising support for constitutional reforms that would strengthen women’s representation in leadership and decision-making.

In her address, she emphasised that the proposed legislation goes beyond a routine constitutional amendment, noting that it reflects the long-standing aspirations of Nigerian women for equity, fairness, and meaningful participation in governance. According to her, women’s voices must not only be acknowledged but also strategically positioned to influence policies that shape communities and the nation at large.

Ambassador Namadi commended the presence and commitment of key dignitaries at the event, including the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani; the First Lady of Kaduna State, Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani; the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Sabuwa; the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele; the Majority Leader, Hon. Munira Sule Tanimu; and the North-West National Coordinator, Ambassador Aisha Abdulkadir. She described their participation as a strong demonstration of political will toward women-centred governance.

She also highlighted the importance of regional solidarity, pointing out that the strong turnout of women representatives from Jigawa State underscored the state’s commitment to advancing women’s political inclusion and leadership development.

Urging participants to take the advocacy beyond the conference hall, Ambassador Namadi called on women leaders and stakeholders to mobilise their networks, engage grassroots communities, and sustain momentum in support of the bill. She stressed that unity, resilience, and collective responsibility remain essential to achieving lasting progress.

In her concluding remarks, she expressed appreciation to the organisers and participants for their dedication to the cause, reaffirming her confidence that sustained advocacy and collaboration would pave the way for a more inclusive Nigeria—where women are not only participants in governance but leaders driving societal transformation.

The programme, themed “North-West Women Rising: Advocating for Our Constitutional Space in Leadership,” marks another milestone in the ongoing push for constitutional backing for women’s representation, with growing optimism that coordinated regional advocacy will translate into positive legislative outcomes.
