NLC disapproves 5m FG palliative

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said that the issue of the two-days warning strike was declared because the FG did not carry the Congress along in deciding to disburse N5 billion palliative to state for subsidy removal.

The national chairman of NLC, Joe Ajaero, while speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Friday, disclosed.

He said the federal government has imbibed the custom of always sharing money instead of tackling the situation.

Recall, that in August, the federal government announced a N5 billion palliative package for each state of the federation, including the federal capital territory (FCT), and some state governments had announced the receipt of the cash palliative.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, said only N2 billion out of the N5 billion loan has been disbursed to the states.

Speaking on the cash palliative, Ajaero said labour unions did not have any discussion with the federal government on the disbursement of the N5 billion.

Adding that the N5 billion the federal government is giving is for allocations to state governments for money sharing and it is not part of the mandate the congress is negotiating. He illustrated that in a community out of a state where we have 3million person, #1000 that means #1000 each will be given to a person.

Ajaero said the congress want the Federal Government to channel funds to creating gas- powered vehicles that affects the Labour wing of the Nigeria populace and not share money, which will not cushion the effects of subsidy removal.
