Live Updates: Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi Decide
An one hour after voting commenced in Bayelsa State, the governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Bayelsa State Chapter has alleged vote buying against the APC in the election.
The PDP in a statement signed by Ebiye Agu Ogoli, State Publicity Secretary, called the attention of “the general public to an electoral fraud being perpetrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) where they have been caught deviously buying PVC’s of gullible voters with the sum of #50,000.
According to the statement, this is happening in Yenagoa metropolis particularly in Onopa, Amarata and its environs; We are shocked by the desperation of the APC and condemn it in its entirety.
That PDP calls on INEC, the National Commissioner i/c South-south, Supervising REC’s, Electoral officers, SPO’s etc to maintain neutrality, act in a fair and transparent manner with all political parties contesting the Governorship election.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, voted at exactly 08.40am at his country home, Sampoh in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.
KOGI election:
The off-circle governorship election in Kogi State witnessed late arrival of INEC officials at polling units in some parts of the state.
Most places around Lokoja metropolis encountered the late arrival of officials and materials.
INEC had announced that materials and officials were expected to arrive at their centres/polling units by 6:00 a.m.
Places like Adankolo, Lokongoma and Kpata encountered similar challenges.
Mr. Cornelius Stephen, a civil servant who came all the way from Kano to vote, expressed disappointment with INEC, which had assured Nigerians of timely distribution of materials and arrival of officials at polling units across the state.
Abiola Choice, the Presiding Officer (PO), said that they came late to St. Luke Primary School, Adankolo, because of late distribution of materials at the RAC Centre in Crowder Memorial College, Lokoja.
Accreditation and voting commenced in Okene, Adavi and Okehi local goveremt areas in Kogi Central districts respectively at about 8.00am.
People were seen waiting for accreditation and to vote at Code 9 Owanu ward in Adavi Local Government.
Imo State:
The key contestants in today’s election in Imo State are incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma of the APC, Sam Anyanwu of the PDP and Athan Achonu of the Labour Party. The race is seen as unpredictable and could swing in favour of any of the three leading contenders.
The NSCDC has announced that maximum security will be made available at the polling unit in the state.
