Tragic Auto Crash in Osun Claims Seven Lives
Seven people lost their lives in an accident on the Osogbo-Ilobu highway on Tuesday, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The sector commander, Henry Benamaisia, said the crash involved a blue Mazda commercial bus and a tricycle.
Mr Benamaisia said it occurred at 9:10 a.m. around the WORDIF area, close to Lameco junction on the ring road bypass.
He said eight people — four male adults and four children — were involved in the crash.
The sector commander said that four persons died on the spot.
The fatal auto crash in Osogbo, the Osun state capital claimed the lives of seven persons, including three school children, on Tuesday.
The incident which occurred around 9 am in WOCDIF area, along Osun West bypass road involved a commercial bus, a motorcycle and a tricycle carrying the school pupils.
It was gathered that the commercial bus registered with RBC15 ZN was coming from the stadium end and veered off its lane to the other side where it rammed on the tricycle and the motorcycle opposite WOCDIF event centre.
An eye witness, Akande Babawale said the bus driver suddenly veered off his lane and rammed into the moving tricycle and motorcycle killing four victims on the spot.
Confirming the incident, the Spokesperson of, Federal Road Safety Corps in Osun, Agnes Ogungbemi said the incident was as a result of a tyre burst and overspeeding by the commercial bus.
She also affirmed that seven persons were killed in the incident, including four adults, two male children and a female child.
“Four persons died on the spot, four injured persons were taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, three of the injured victims were later confirmed dead and one female child is undergoing treatment”, she said.
She added that the vehicles were taken to Dugbe Police Divisional headquarters in Osogbo.
Meanwhile, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke expressed shock over the news of the incident, saying he is deeply hurt by the unfortunate death of the residents.
A statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed after the incident in Osogbo, expressed heartfelt sympathy of the Government and the people of Osun state to the families of those touched by the incident.
Governor Adeleke reiterated the call on users of the road to exercise caution and adhere strictly to safety guidance on roads, saying the State Government under him will work with relevant authorities to make our road more safer for road users.
According to the report, the Governor started that I am distraught to hear about the terrible accident that resulted in the death of five people in Osogbo due to a fatal accident while five other people sustained injuries of varying degrees. It is really painful for me, and I want to use this avenue to commiserate with the families of the deceased”
“It is my prayer that God Almighty repose their souls and give their loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses occasioned by their death. As a government, we will give the needed support to the injured and pray for their quick recoveries”, the Governor stated.
