Kemi Badenoch, the UK Conservative Party leader, has lamented the rising number of immigrants in the country, vowing to champion plans for a massive reduction in immigration.
Ms Badenoch, in a viral video seen by our correspondent on X on Wednesday, said the UK immigration system is broken and has been “exploited” by immigrants over the past 30 years under successive administrations.
She vowed to lead her party in implementing a “real plan that would, for the first time in 30 years, bring down immigration.”
The Conservative Party leader said sustained mass immigration into the UK has strained housing and other infrastructure.
“Immigration is at a pace too fast to maintain public services. For decades, the entire political class of this country has presided over mass migration.
“We need to take a new approach. I’m the new leader of the Labour Party. We are going to do things differently. I’m saying no more. The system is broken. We cannot go on like this. We need to change,” Ms Badenoch said.
Ms Badenoch’s statement comes amid a wave of mass exodus of Nigerians abroad in search of greener pastures, a development popularly referred to as ‘japa’ in Nigerian parlance.
