NAN Editor Freed After Two Days Of Captivity
Mr. Gregory Maduakolam, an Assistant Editor-in-Chief at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri, has been released after being abducted on Thursday.
He shared the news of his release with colleagues via phone around 11:51 PM on Saturday, revealing that his family had paid an undisclosed ransom to secure his freedom.
Maduakolam recounted that he was mistreated during his time in captivity. Recently transferred from NAN’s Abuja office to Owerri, he described being ambushed while out with a friend and a house agent to inspect a property in Irete, near Owerri.
“After viewing the house, I settled on a part payment with the agent. Just as I was about to get on a commercial motorcycle to return to Owerri, five young men from the area appeared and abducted me,” he stated.
The kidnappers confiscated his cellphone and used it to withdraw all the funds from his bank account.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to God and to everyone who showed concern during his ordeal, including the management and staff of NAN.
