Family Demands Justice as Policeman Dies in Accident During Struggle Between FRSC Officer and Driver

The family of Inspector Tunde Olagbaju, a police officer who was allegedly killed in a road accident involving a road safety official in Osogbo, Osun State, has cried out for justice. According to the brother of the deceased, Olagbaju Abraham Ayodele, Inspector Olagbaju was attached to Zone 11 and had worked for AIG Okafor in Lagos for eight years before being released to return to his state in December.

Abraham explained that his brother had returned to Osun State on December 26, 2024, and was to report back to Zone 11.

However, on January 3, 2025, Inspector Olagbaju attended a police prayer end-of-year party at Zone 11 and took permission to eat beside the zone.

Tragedy struck when a car driven by a yet-to-be-identified person with a road safety officer, Mr. Owolabi, inside stopped the vehicle at Abere roundabout. As they were taking the vehicle to their office, the driver allegedly lost control of the car after a road safety officer started dragging the steering with him, and the car went off the road, hitting Inspector Olagbaju, who died instantly.

Abraham alleged that the road safety officer took his brother’s body to the mortuary without informing the family. He stated that the case was initially reported at Dugbe police station and later transferred to the state CID for investigation.

However, Abraham expressed disappointment that only the driver was charged to court for murder, while the road safety officer who allegedly caused the accident was not prosecuted.

“I am seeking justice for my brother. I want to know why the road safety officer was not charged to court. My brother has a wife and three kids, two females and a male, and his parents are still alive,” Abraham said.

He appealed to the citizens of Nigeria, the road safety headquarters in Abuja, and the Nigeria Police Headquarters to come to his aid and ensure that justice is served.

“It was uncalled for that only the driver was charged to court. The road safety officer that caused the accident that led to the death of my innocent brother was not charged to court. I want justice for my brother,” Abraham added.

Also, the widow of the deceased, in an interview  appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to ensure that Justice is served to Mr Owolabi, the Road Safety Official who allegedly orchestrated the accident.
