CSDA commissions 18 Micro Projects in Osun Communities

The Osun State Government, in conjunction with the community and social Development Agency(CSDA) and World Bank, on Wednesday, commissioned 18 micro projects in the rural communities in a bid to cushion the effect of COVID-19 and make life more meaningful for citizens of the state.

The projects include rehabilitation and equipping of science laboratories, boreholes, and newly built blocks of eight rooms of VIP toilets and health centres in Osogbo, Iragbiji, Ibokun and Olorunda areas.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Affairs, Mr Segun Olanibi said, the project commissioning is another milestone achievement in the quest of the government to build a vibrant state where social infrastructures are within the reach of every citizen of the state.

He added that the projects will help in alleviating poverty in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has left in its trail economic hardship, and health and educational challenges among others.

“What we are witnessing today is a pointer to the fact that broad-based growth is still possible with the right mix of policies and structural reforms.

“Government can unleash growth that is broadly shared amongst all segments of society which is the hallmark of Community Driven Development (CDD) approach, an approach which OSUN CSDA uses in the emergence and implementation of the priority project of the benefitting communities.

“I, therefore, appreciate OSUN CSDA which is an agency of the state government for the good work the agency is doing in ensuring that the dividend of democracy reaches the grassroots. I also thank the World Bank for prompt intervention.

“I congratulate the beneficiaries and charge you to put the projects to maximum use and ensure maintenance and sustainability”.

The Special Adviser to the Governor, Engr. Mumini Olabamiji, in the same vein, thanked the Osun CSDA for its diligent work.

During his speech, he congratulated the beneficiaries of the projects and also urged them to utilize and maintain them well.

During an interview with the General Manager of Osun CSDA, Mrs Aderonke Abokede disclosed how essential the projects are to the beneficiaries, the project as a whole is helping to impact positively on human development and the state. Especially the science laboratory rooms for the science students as science is a practical course.

Aderonke said, “This isn’t just about the project, it is also about utilization and that was being displayed by the beneficiaries. The essence of commissioning is to ensure that the projects are completed and functional. Water restores healthy living and hygiene among our people. The sanitation project aspect is to put an end to open defecation and ensure that people go to the toilet to ease themselves and ensure proper hygiene around us.

“For this commissioning face, 18 micro-projects are being commissioned but altogether for this face, there are 37 micro projects but 18 are being commissioned at this moment.

“My charge to the beneficiaries of the projects is that they should ensure the sustainability of the projects by maintaining and ensuring proper utilization of the project so that it can be sustained and utilized not only for this present students but for more students and generations that are still coming, it is our desire when talking about sustainable development”.

Among the projects commissioned are rehabilitated and well-equipped laboratory rooms at N.U.D College, Isale Oyo, Iragbiji, two blocks of classrooms at N.U.D Primary school, Isale Oyo, Iragbiji and a science laboratory at N.U.D Grammar School, Okebale , Osogbo Local Government.

Also commissioned are boreholes and hand pump boreholes for the rural dwellers in Moboluwaduro Community, Osogbo, and Ibokun, Obokun local government and Dada Oga Community , Okebale, Osogbo, 8 rooms of VIP Toilet at Awosuru Isopako area, Osogbo and healthcare center at Okeyelu area in Olorunda local government area.
