NANS Accuses APC Of Spreading Falsehood, Directs Students To Avoid Secretariats

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council, Osun Axis, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately spreading falsehood regarding the recent Appeal Court judgement on the sacked local government chairmen and councillors.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Afolabi Faruq (Costa), and other executives, NANS Osun described the APC’s claim that the court reinstated the sacked council officials as a blatant misrepresentation of facts, urging the public to disregard the misinformation.
According to the students’ body, two competent courts had earlier nullified the controversial YES or NO council election held in October 2022, and no part of the Appeal Court ruling reversed these decisions.
NANS further expressed strong support for the conduct of fresh local government elections scheduled for February 22, 2025, under the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
The association warned that Osun students would not stand by while politicians manipulate narratives to create chaos in the state.
It also advised students currently undertaking their Industrial Training (IT), Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), and practicum in local government offices to stay away from the secretariats until security is assured.
“We cannot fold our arms while political actors attempt to destabilise the peace of our dear state,” the statement read. “Our primary concern remains the security and welfare of our members, and we will not allow them to be used as pawns in political games.”
NANS further cautioned against any attempt by the APC to instigate violence in the state, stressing that Osun people would resist any unlawful move to forcefully take over the councils.\
“The APC should desist from its plan to unleash mayhem on the people. The good people of Osun will employ all lawful means to resist any illegality,” the statement added.
The students’ body reiterated its commitment to ensuring that students in Osun remain safe and unaffected by political turmoil.
