Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan harassment allegations against Akpabio has gained more followers as members of civil society organizations staged a protest at the National Assembly on Wednesday, demanding that Senate President Godswill Akpabio step down pending an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against him.
The protesters gathered at the National Assembly gate as early as 8:00 a.m., just hours before the Senate’s plenary session. Holding banners with messages such as ‘Akpabio Must Go’ and ‘Protect Women’s Rights’, they called for accountability and urged the Senate to launch a thorough investigation into the accusations.
The demonstration follows explosive claims made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a live television interview, in which she accused Akpabio of harassing her and retaliating against her for rejecting his alleged advances. The controversy escalated after a February 20, 2025, seating arrangement change in the Senate, which Akpoti-Uduaghan described as an act of retribution.
“We are here to demand justice for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and to ensure that those in power are held accountable. No one is above the law,” the spokesperson stated.
As of the time of reporting, neither Akpabio nor the Senate leadership has issued an official response to the protest. Security operatives monitored the demonstration, which remained peaceful.
