Gombe Approves N1.15 Billion For Solar Street Lights, Infrastructure Projects

The Gombe State Government has approved N1.15 billion for the installation of solar street lights and other infrastructure projects across three local government areas.
Malam Mahmood Yusuf, Director-General of the Joint Project Development Agency, announced this during a press briefing on Thursday in Gombe.
According to Yusuf, the approval came during a Joint Project Council (JPC) meeting chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, aligning with his administration’s vision for infrastructure development.
The projects include:
Solar street lights in Kumo: Installation on newly constructed roads at a cost of N740 million.
Kwadon area, Yamaltu/Deba: Fencing of the NALDA market and installation of solar street lights, costing N362 million.
Billiri market expansion: N47 million for expanding the grains market and constructing six public toilets.
Additionally, Yusuf noted that the initial N112 million allocated for the grains market in 2024 was revised upward to N159 million to accommodate six additional toilets.
In response to rising cases of theft in public buildings, the council approved the deployment of GOSTEC and Operation Hattara personnel to enhance surveillance in schools and cemeteries. This decision follows concerns raised by ALGON Chairman, Sani Haruna.
“The council has resolved to strengthen security by expanding the scope of Operation Hattara to cover all 11 LGAs,” Yusuf stated.
Meanwhile, Fatima-Binta Bello, Chairperson of Shongom Local Government Council, reiterated her commitment to improving education and healthcare. She emphasized the need to recruit more qualified personnel to bridge manpower gaps, particularly in primary healthcare and basic education.
Similarly, Ahmad Wali, Chairman of Kwami Local Government Council, announced efforts to resurvey and remap grazing reserves and cattle routes to prevent farmer-herder conflicts. He warned that individuals encroaching on cattle routes and grazing lands would face sanctions.
