Osun E-parliament: Leveraging technology to bridge the gap between citizens, legislators- KDI Program Manager
The Senior Program Manager of Kimpact Development Initiative, KDI, Mr. Oluwafemi Adebayo, has has said that the E-parliament platform will leverage technology to bridge the gap between the citizens and the legislative arm of government.
He stated this in Ilesa on Tuesday during a Legislative town hall meeting held to sensitize the general public about the Osun State House of Assembly E-parliament platform.
The program was organized by Kimpact Development Initiative, KDI, in collaboration with the Osun State House of Assembly and the International Republican Institute, IRI.
According to Adebayo, “The E-parliament platform will serve in three different aspects such as engagement, a platform to get strategy information about the process of lawmaking, to educate us and make have a deep understanding of the legislative processes
“The legislators are meant to be the closest to us as a people because we sent them there as our representatives. Their roles and responsibilities are to represent our interest, make laws and to carry out oversight functions over the executive.
“So we thought of leveraging technology so as to be able to bridge the gap between citizens and the legislative arm of government.”
He added that KDI team will not relax till when they can ensure and guarantee the sustainability of the platform.
“We are planning to hand over in 6 months’ time i.e finally hands off because when we manage we see through. We also have an analytical aspect of this that is not even strenuous, the analytical aspect will also tell us the user behaviour i.e how are Osun people using this platform?
“After 12-18 months, we are coming back as an organization to access and see if there is a need for more training or if there is a need to use another approach, then we will definitely do.”
The Program Manager lauded the Osun State House Of Assembly for recruiting IT experts whose job is to manage the IT process of the house so that when the tenure of the 7th Assembly expires, they will still be there.
“When this process wanted to start, we supported the recruitment because we also do not want any aspect of favouritism and to the best of our knowledge they have an IT manager and we are doing as much as possible to build the capacity of the IT persons.
“The IT team are not working for the 7th assembly rather they are working for the Osun State House of Assembly”.
