NIS recovers over 500 National ID Cards, PVCs from Foreigners in Kastina

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has recovered about 513 national identification cards and permanent voter cards (PVCs) from foreign nationals in Katsina.

The state’s NIS controller, Kelechi Ekeoba-Jones revealed this information to NAN on November 14, 2022, during a press briefing at the newly established Jibia border command.

He stated that the special border command in Jibia seized 202 PVCs and 311 national identification cards from non-Nigerians in the state.

“Some foreign nationals were discovered in possession of Federal Republic of Nigeria voter identification cards and national identity cards issued to them in various parts of the country,” he said.

“In various formations of the command, 513 voter and national identification cards were recovered from them.”

“Therefore, we are requesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) involve us anytime a voter registration drive is done again.

“Only immigration officers can identify foreigners using our methods whenever they register at any registration centre in the country.”

“We are requesting that INEC, at all points of registration, solicit the assistance of our citizens in order to prevent the registration of foreigners.”

“Also, the organisation responsible for the registration of national identity cards should employ more of our officers when the exercise begins, since it is quite necessary,” he added.
