‘I speak when I want’, says Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo feels that his sensational TV interview, in which he claimed to have been deceived and forced out of Manchester United, did not serve as a distraction in the Portugal locker room during the World Cup.

The captain of Portugal stated that he is unconcerned about how his actions will affect the team and that he is optimistic about their chances of winning the World Cup.

“The best timing in my life has always been my timing,” Ronaldo said at a news conference on Monday.

“I am not required to consider what others believe. I speak at my discretion. The athletes have known me for many years and are familiar with my personality.

“This bunch is ambitious, eager, and dedicated. Therefore, I am confident that (the interview) will not disrupt the changing room’s attention and focus.”

After missing Thursday’s friendly against Nigeria in Lisbon owing to a stomach ailment, Ronaldo has been working with his teammates as usual since arriving in Qatar on Friday, and he claims to be in good shape.

Ronaldo added, “I’m feeling terrific, I’ve fully recovered, and I’m training hard in preparation for the World Cup.”

“I believe this Portugal team has tremendous potential. I am certain that we can win, but we must concentrate on the next match. Therefore, the emphasis is on Ghana; once a victory is achieved, the strategy will shift.

“We shall find out in the end which team is the best, but I expect Portugal to be the best team in this World Cup. But we must demonstrate this on the field.”

Portugal is in Group H of the World Cup alongside Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea.
