Poll: Osun PDP warns against upload of fake results
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has warned officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission against uploading fake National Assembly election results on the commission’s servers.
The PDP candidates were returned elected in three Senatorial Districts and 9 Federal Constituencies in the state in the last Saturday’s National Assembly elections.
In a statement obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday, the State Caretaker Chairman of the party, Dr Adekunle Akindele, alleged a plot by the National Assembly candidates of the All Progressives Congress and some officials of INEC to upload doctored results on the backend servers of the commission.
The statement read in parts, “We have been reliably informed by insiders that the defeated APC candidates are working on an evil plot to tamper with the declared results of last Saturday’s National Assembly elections. The agenda is to upload false results through connivance with some unscrupulous INEC officials. Such fake results will defer from what has been announced.
“We are using this medium to strongly warn against any attempt to tamper with the will of Osun People. We specifically call on INEC officials to beware of hired elements who may compromise its system in service of APC. Osun people massively voted for PDP legislative candidates. Any attempt to tamper with results already validly declared will be resisted by our people.”
But the APC spokesperson in the state, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the allegations, saying PDP should not judge the party by its own standard.
“It is what they are doing that they are accusing us of. We don’t need to use any underhand arrangement to ensure that we get justice. We are going to use all legal means to ensure that we get back the stolen mandate of our candidates.
“They (PDP), cannot celebrate because they knew what they did. The whole State was militarised during the period of the election. There was no level playing ground. They are afraid because they know that what they are parading is nothing but a metaphorical dead sparrow that cannot stand the test of time,” Olabisi said.
