Adeleke Pledges Non-Interference, Free And Fair LGAs Elections

In a week to the February 22, 2025, local government elections in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke assured stakeholders that the state government would not interfere in the elections, emphasising that the independence of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) would be respected.
While highlighting the high level of political awareness in Osun and the governor urged candidates to focus on engaging the electorate with their manifestos rather than resorting to intimidation.
“As a government, we are committed to free and fair elections. We have followed the preparatory activities of the state electoral commission and assure the public that we respect the independence of the commission to conduct credible elections.
“Our literacy level is at an all-time high. This is not a state where residents can be deceived. They read and understand court rulings and political matters. I urge our people to get ready for February 22. It is an opportunity to vote for your preferred council chairmen and councilors,” he added.
Adeleke cautioned against misinformation and fake news, warning that misrepresenting judicial processes is a punishable offense under the law.
He also raised concerns over intelligence reports suggesting that certain opposition elements were plotting to incite unrest in the state. He issued a stern warning to those involved, directing security agencies to take decisive action within the law to prevent any disruption.
“I warn those plotting such evil to desist because of its grave consequences. As the Chief Security Officer of this state, I have instructed security agencies to deal decisively with any promoter of violence within the context of the rule of law. We will not allow Osun to be plunged into unnecessary conflict.
“Democracy is about ballot papers, not guns and cutlasses. Go to the polls on the 22nd and make your choice peacefully. Osun is a bastion of democracy, and we are prepared to defend our democratic heritage,” he concluded.
