OSPOLY Declares One-Week Break, Postpones Matric Indefinitely

Following a violent clash between rival groups in the institution, the Management of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree has declared a one-week mid-semester break and postponed its matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.

Recall Daily Impact had earlier reported that no fewer than three persons, including individuals suspected to be students, sustained varying degrees of injuries in the early hours of Monday following a violent cult clash at the institution.

The incident, which sparked panic across the campus, was reportedly a fallout of a confrontation between two rival cult groups — the Buccaneers and the Supreme Eiye Confraternity.

According to credible sources within the institution, gunshots were heard around 11:00 a.m. within the school premises, leading to a state of pandemonium as students and staff fled for safety.

According to report gathered one of the victims, a female yet to be identified, sustained a critical head injury and was rushed to a nearby medical facility.

Two other individuals, also believed to be students, were reportedly injured in the melee and are currently receiving treatment.

Security operatives were swiftly mobilised to the scene, and normalcy was gradually restored.

Meanwhile, in a memo issued by its Registrar, Mr. Abiodun Oloyede, the institution said the one-week mid-semester break declared by the management is due to the pleas from students who were yet to pay their school fees or complete their registration formalities.

However, the management of OSPOLY urged its students to utilise the window of the one-week mid-semester break to pay their school fees and complete their registration formalities.

The OSPOLY Registrar’s memo reads: “In view of the pleas and appeals received from some set of students who have not been able to pay their schools fees and had not completed their registration formalities, Management has magnanimously granted a week mid-semester break from Thursday, 10th April to Wednesday, 16th April, 2025. This is to allow all defaulting students pay their school fees and complete their registration procedure.

“Consequently, the Matriculation Ceremony for the 2024/2025 Academic Session earlier scheduled to hold on tomorrow Thursday 10th April, 2025 has been postponed. A new date shall be announced in due course.

“All students are therefore enjoined to avail themselves of this break and pay all their fees and complete their registration as no further appeal shall be entertained.”
