Attention on Adeleke as he becomes Osun gov

It is indeed a moment of triumph and glory for the incoming governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, who will be inaugurated in Osogbo, the state’s capital, today.

Adeleke, who is famed for his boisterous and effusive dance steps, has a lot of fans on social media, and many are of the view that he will add entertainment and colour to governance in the state. Many social media users have also opined that his dance steps would be one of the highlights of the inauguration.

On Saturday, November 26, Adeleke was seen with some traditional musicians and drummers as he rehearsed for the big day, which is finally here. Because of his interesting personality, many Nigerians, including non-indigenes of the state, are no doubt looking forward to his inauguration.

Recently, a video surfaced on the Internet showing the governor-elect on the streets, in a tracksuit and trainers, as he walked, sang, danced and urged citizens of the state to be prepared for him as he takes over the reins of governance. He said, “Here we come; the good Lord is here. Thank you Father for this day; November 27 all the way. Osun people, here comes ‘imole’ (light).”

Earlier, Adeleke had assured the people of the state that he would provide them with good governance. In his last Instagram post as of the time of filing this report, he had written, “Let me reassure the people of Osun State (that) good governance is on the way. Responsible and responsive leadership is here.”

Recall that Adeleke, under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, won the July 16, 2022, governorship in the state, defeating the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress, and candidates of other political parties that vied for the coveted office.

Four years earlier, in 2018, Adeleke had taken his first shot at the governorship position but he lost to Oyetola after a run-off election, which many believed to be controversial. Adeleke was adjudged to have won the first round of the election.

His elder brother, Adedeji, who is thought to have bankrolled his election, had admonished him to always put the interests of the people first. He added that if he (Ademola) did not deliver on his promises to the people, he would withdraw his support for him.

Born on May 13, 1960, Adeleke is businessman. He represented the Osun West Senatorial district in the National Assembly between 2017 and 2019. He took over the seat from his brother, Isiaka, aka Serubawon, who was also a former governor of the state. Isiaka passed away on April 23, 2017, after allegedly suffering a heart attack.
