Betta Edu Granted Bail by EFCC with Stipulated Conditions

The suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has been released on bail.

This follows an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into an alleged N585 million cash transfer scandal that took place under her ministry.

The suspended minister, who was at the office of the EFCC on Tuesday, has been mandated to report to it daily.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on Monday morning suspended the minister pending the conclusion of the investigation into the alleged crime she committed.

Betta Edu is accussed of transfering a sum of N585 million naira meant for humaniutarian activities into a private account.

Meanwhile, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, Sadiya Umar-Farouq was released on bail late Monday night after being detained for several hours at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Sadiya Umar-Farouq was also directed to report everyday to the EFCC’s office for sessions with interrogators on alleged financial misappropriations levelled against her, during her tenure as Minister.
