The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, will be put on trial today, Thursday 16th of November, by the Federal Government on alleged economic sabotage-related offences.
Emefiele’s trial was initially scheduled to commence yesterday but stalled over NLC/TUC strike action. He will be arraigned at a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Emefiele is accused of conspiracy and procurement fraud involving the award of contracts worth N6.9 billion to a company owned by his alleged accomplice, Ramalan Yaro. The charges also allege that Emefiele used his position to confer corrupt advantages on Yaro.
