Confusion Over Status Of Kidnapped NURTW Chairman
There is confusion in Apomu, Isokan Local Government area of Osun State as the family of the reportedly killed chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Mr Kazeem Alli, said they received calls from those they suspected to be kidnappers who are holding the man hostage.
According to the family, the suspected kidnappers demanded 15 million naira ransom to free Alli who was reportedly killed on Sunday.
The victim was allegedly waylaid and attacked with guns and cutlasses after unknown gunmen had trailed him to the Oke-Alfa area of Apomu in Isokan Local Government Area, Osun State on Saturday night before he was whisked away to an unknown destination.
The Osun State Police Command through its spokesperson, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that the body of Kazeem is yet to be found as police, hunters, vigilante and locals have been mobilised to the forest in the area.
Mrs Opalola further confirmed that eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.
A member of the victim’s family, who pleaded not to be named, told newsmen on Monday that the abductors had contacted the family demanding 15 million naira ransom.
According to the family member, “The kidnappers have reached out to us. They warned us not to let anybody know about the negotiations. They have been reaching the family through the wife, Jemila Alli”.
“They demanded 15 million naira as ransom. We have not spoken with Kazeem Alli since he was abducted. We are praying for his safe return.”
