Football: Ronaldo says he never accepted £173million offer from Saudi Arabian club

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he has not accepted the £173million offer from Saudi Arabian football club Al-Nassr. The Portuguese international is searching for a new club after being released from his Manchester United contract by mutual consent, but he does not appear to be keen on leaving Europe.

The 37-year-old is currently in Qatar captaining Portugal in the World Cup but after three consecutive starts in the group stages, he was dropped by Fernando Santos who opted to pick Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos to make his first senior international start.

Ronaldo did get on the pitch though as he replaced Joao Felix with 17 minutes remaining but was unable to get in on the goal scoring act with his only strike of the tournament coming against Ghana.

Reports had been circulating that Ronaldo was set to embark on a Middle East adventure with Al-Nassr but following the game the man himself gave a simple response to those rumours, saying: “No that’s not true – not true.”

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn ruled out the German champions from making a move for Ronaldo last week which means one of the only teams still featuring in Europe’s top competition that are interested in Ronaldo is Chelsea.

Todd Boehly is a keen admirer of the legendary forward and was hopeful of bringing him to Stamford Bridge in the summer but with Thomas Tuchel opposing the deal, Chelsea signed former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, the lack of goals recently for the Blues may mean a short-term deal for Ronaldo is a great option especially now that Tuchel has been replaced by Graham Potter.
