Fubara Defies Opposition, Swiftly Signs 2024 Budget 24 Hours Post-Presentation to Five Assembly Members
The Contentious Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers, had just signed the state’s 2024 N800 billion budget estimate, into law.
Recall, that DAILY IMPACT reported that the budget was presented to five remaining lawmakers, while the building of the Rivers state house of assembly was being demolished.
The governor signed the appropriation bill 24 hours after he presented the budget estimate to a five-member faction of the state house of assembly led by Edison Ehie, the speaker.
On Wednesday, Fubara presented the budget estimate titled “Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation and Continuity” during the demolition of the assembly complex by the state government.
The governor thanked President Bola Tinubu “for his special interest in the peace and progress of Rivers State and the bold steps he has taken to revamp the nation’s economy and sustainable development across the country”.
We are also grateful to the good people of Rivers State and the progressive members of the State House of Assembly for your continuing support and prayer for the success of our administration,” he had said on Wednesday.
During Wednesday’s plenary, Ehie declared the seats of the 27 lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), vacant.
Over the past few months, the Rivers assembly has been enmeshed in crisis over an impeachment plot against Fubara.
However, the other faction of the assembly is led by Martin Amaewhule, the factional speaker loyal to Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).
