GWR: Nigerian Lady Completes 72-Hour Nail Painting Marathon
A Nigerian nail painter from Plateau State, Lisha Dachor, 19, has wrapped up her attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest nail painting marathon by an individual.
At the event, dubbed a “nail-a-thon,” Dachor was reported to have painted over 4,000 artificial nails in 72 hours.
In a post on her Facebook page on Thursday, she wrote, “Breaking barriers and setting records! Honoured to have set a new milestone in the world of nail art with the longest marathon painting of artificial nails by an individual. Grateful for the journey and the incredible support.”
On April 25, Dachor announced her intention to undertake the challenge from April 28 to May 1 at Odilin’s Event Centre, behind the National Library in Jos, Plateau State capital.
She also stated that free bus transportation to and from the venue would be made available for attendees.
In an interview with the BBC, Dachor stated that she aims to use her record attempt to shine a positive spotlight on Plateau State.
“People judge the Plateau by its cover. Apart from the ethnic issues we have, Plateau is a beautiful place. I got support from all ethnic groups while I embarked on this attempt,” she said.
She was also reported to have embarked on the challenge to change the narrative about teen mothers like herself.
“I want to give people hope, especially single mothers, because many people don’t think we have anything to offer,” she told the BBC.
With the event concluded, Dachor awaits the review of her attempt by the Guinness World Records, upon submission of evidence documenting her marathon nail-painting session.
The conclusion of the “nail-a-thon” was met with celebration and commendation from various individuals, especially netizens.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, also took to his handle on X.com to express his pride in Dachor’s “record-breaking spirit.
I proudly join in celebrating Lisha Seleme Dachor’s record-breaking spirit of a young talent from Plateau State on her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest nail art marathon. Your determination aligns with my administration’s policy objectives for the youth and inspires us all,” he wrote.
In April, a Nigerian chess master, Tunde Onakoya, set a new Guinness World Record for the longest marathon chess, clocking an impressive 60 hours.
Alongside his United States partner, Shawn Martinez, Onakoya broke the record of Norwegian players, Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, who played for 56 hours and 9- minutes in 2018.
Same month, a Nigerian social media entrepreneur, Clara Kronborg, broke the Guinness World Record for the longest interview with an average time of 55 hours and 24 seconds, beating the previous record holder, Rob Oliver from the United States, who did 37 hours and 44 minutes in 2022.
