HIBC 2022: “Youths should develop themselves, endeavor to learn continuously,” says Uniosun VC
The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Adebooye has tasked youths to develop themselves and endeavor to learn continuously outside the corridors of tertiary institution.
He urged them not to just hold degree certificates but to also have practical and life-coping skills that will prepare them to add innovative values to themselves and the nation.
Adebooye stated this on Monday during the opening ceremony of the 2nd edition of Hope Innovators Boot Conference in Osogbo.
The Vice-Chancellor said, it is no doubt that the most relevant prerequisite to acquiring a job or becoming a leader in the world today is to be fully equipped with the skills and experience to make impact on the world.
According to him, ” I am one of those who subscribe to the school of thought that our youths should not just hold degree certificates to show that they have passed through an educational Institute, but also have practical and life-coping skills that will prepare them to add innovative values to themselves and our nation.
“You will not be given full training on that type of skill in your various educational institutes. This is why it is imperative for youths to develop themselves and endeavor to learn continuously outside the corridors of tertiary institutions.
“For UNIOSUN students, our policy is to award duo certificates: one in subject matter of focus; and the other in entrepreneurship education. This makes them more employable and job creators.”
In his remark, the Commissioner for Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Osun State, Dr. Ademola Bakare said that what they are projecting is the behavioral change i.e a change in the behavior of a youth or attitude so as to use their potentials for the greatness of Nigeria.
“This program might help to replicate BB Naija which will be used in more positive ways for the Nigerian youths because if we’re able to organize a boot camp where we will bring in young Nigerians even if it is just SSS 1-3 students being grouped together in camp for 90 days. We will task them to produce new Apps that can be used to burst crime rather than been useful in the dark web.
“If people are able to identify the sector and young people come into it, then they can bring the innovation into that sector and the sector will turn around positively for them. Yes, our youths can be engaged in some crime but I believe what is learnt can be unlearned.
“With this, Nigerian youths can do more and then we will sort after world wide. We are looking forward to a robust time together in the next two to three days where we can share ideas to our young youths.
Speaking on behalf of Reboot Creative Hub, Mr Ayodeji Ologun said, this year edition has a core objective of raising strong advocacy against banking fraud using the hashtag #ScamNoPay.
He said it will be an educating and inspiring conference because it has a TV based competitions designed for student delegates from 20 higher institutions and 30 secondary schools across Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States.
Ologun added that the 3-day event will feature many notable Nigerians living in and out of Nigeria and from different fields.
