Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi Irekandu Launches Irekandu Ladies Cooperative Society

Honourable Adewumi Adeyemi Irekandu, the lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency, has officially launched the Irekandu Ladies Cooperative Society.

The initiative is aimed at empowering and uniting women committed to his political vision and community progress.

The Irekandu Ladies group, which has been active since 2017 during Hon. Irekandu’s first term in the Osun State House of Assembly, comprises women from all ten wards of the constituency.

“The significance of this initiative is in promoting economic independence, political engagement, and social empowerment for women in the Obokun Constituency.

“The Irekandu Ladies began as a grassroots initiative during my initial tenure, bringing together women from all wards. Today, it has evolved into a robust and vibrant network,” Hon. Irekandu said during his speech.

To prepare for the cooperative’s establishment, Hon. Irekandu, in partnership with the Enterprise Development Center, organized a comprehensive training program for the group’s members.

The initiative, conducted in three batches, trained 600 women, who received certificates accredited by Mastercard. This programme was designed to equip participants with the skills needed to effectively manage the cooperative society.

The launch event, held with great fanfare, brought together a host of prominent figures from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and community leaders, including the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, commissioners, party executives, and representatives of market women.

Hon. Irekandu emphasized that the cooperative society is not just a milestone but the beginning of broader efforts to uplift women and foster a more inclusive community.

He subsequently reiterated his commitment to creating opportunities for women to thrive and strengthen their roles in governance and community development.

The event, which was held in Obokun, was graced by Yeyeluwa Chief (Dr.) Mrs. Modupe Adeleke-Sanni, who served as the Mother of the Day. Distinguished attendees included Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly; Honourable Sunday Bisi, Osun State PDP Chairman; Hon. Mrs. Adedayo Adeyemi; Hon. Prince Mayowa Adejoorin, Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation; Hon. Prince Adebayo Ogungbangbe, Commissioner for Cooperatives and Employment; Hon. Mrs. Eniola Grace Omotosho, Special Adviser to the Governor on Market Women Affairs; and other party leaders and executives.
