I travelled from Iragbiji to jump into Osun river in Osogbo, says rescued victim

A yet-to-identified middle-aged has disclosed that she travelled from Iragbiji, Boripe local government to jump into the Osun River in Osogbo to quench a burning sensation inside her.

The woman, who was rescued by operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, after she jumped into the Osun River around Gbodofon bridge, believed 5he only way to stop the burning sensation was to jump into the river.

Osun NSCDC spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday said the woman was rescued on Tuesday after passersby raised the alarm.

It reads, “The Search and Rescue Team of the command received a distress call from a member of the public and in less than ten minutes the officers were at the scene to rescue the victim and resuscitate her before taking her to the hospital for medical attention.

After becoming conscious as a result of first aid treatment initially provided by the NSCDC team, the middle-aged woman explained that she came from Iragbiji to Osogbo to jump into Gbodofon river because she was feeling fire burning in her body and the only way to quench the fire was to jump into Osun river”.

The Commandant, Agboola Sunday, therefore urged the state residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property even during emergencies and enjoined them to take care of their mental health, stressing that his men would pay close attention to all the rivers in the state to avoid future occurrence.
