Manchester City Player Arrested Over Alleged Phone Theft

Manchester City midfielder, Matheus Nunes was reportedly arrested in Spain on charges of theft last month.

 

Per El Mundo, the Portuguese was arrested by the National Police at La Riviera nightclub in Madrid for stealing another man’s mobile phone.

 

Nunes was spending the weekend with his friends in the Spanish capital after failing to make the Portugal squad during the international break.

 

The player was arrested at 5:30am and the police report claimed that he snatched a 58-year-old man’s phone in the bathroom of the club.

According to the player, the alleged victim reportedly tried to photograph the player without his consent which prompted him to take away his phone. The man immediately notified the police who later found a phone in the Manchester City star’s possession in his room.

Another version from witnesses has claimed that the victim reportedly touched the player with the phone in his hand to which the player reacted angrily and mistakenly thought he had taken his photograph.

The 25-year-old spent some time behind bars before being bailed pending a trial.

 

Nunes is expected to face trial over the incident but will continue with Manchester City in the meantime.

 

The Portugal international started in City’s Tuesday night Champions League fixture against Slovan Bratislava and could be next seen in action on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s side take on Fulham in the Premier League.
