Murdered family: Police replace DPO, hunt escaped suspect
Seven days after a suspect, Lekan Adekanbi, in the gruesome murder of a couple and their son escaped from custody, the Ogun State Police Command has yet to re-capture him.
Adekanbi was arrested following the killing of a former Central Bank of Nigeria worker, Kehinde Fatinoye; his wife, Bukola; and their son, Oreoluwa, after they returned from a crossover service on January 1, 2023.
Adekanbi was the driver of the late Bukola and was arrested over the incident.
He, however, collapsed shortly after he was taken to Ibara police station.
He was subsequently rushed to the police clinic, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, where he escaped.
“At the hospital, Lekan (Adekanbi) pretended like he wanted to urinate and escaped,” a source said.
The police authorities subsequently removed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ibara, Abeokuta, CSP Bernard Ediagbonya, and one other for alleged negligence.
The DPO and one other officer, after their removal, were ordered to resume at the police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
A police source said the disappearance of the suspect created tension in the command and might force the command to subject the officers to orderly room trial.
PUNCH Metro gathered that a crack team of the command was still hunting the suspect.
Meanwhile, a new DPO was deployed in the Ibara divisional police station on Monday.
“The new DPO may address the officers and policemen tomorrow when he will be resuming.
“The former DPO and the other officer have been asked to be on standby at Eleweran till further notice,” a source added.
