NAFDAC Flags Nivea Roll-On Deodorant, Warns Nigerians Against Use
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has notified Nigerians about the recall of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant, 50ml, which claims to offer 48-hour protection in African climates.
This recall follows a warning from the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products in Brussels.
In a notice issued on Thursday, NAFDAC identified the product’s batch number as 93529610.
The agency stated that the recalled Nivea product has been found to contain 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical banned in cosmetics due to its potential risks, including reproductive harm, health issues for unborn children, and skin irritation or burns.
Manufactured in Germany, the product has a Bar Code Number of 42299882.
NAFDAC urged importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to remain vigilant and ensure that the affected Nivea Roll-on is not imported, distributed, sold, or used.
Those in possession of the affected batch should immediately stop using it and return the stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Healthcare professionals and consumers are also encouraged to report any adverse reactions associated with the use of regulated products by contacting the nearest NAFDAC office, using the email [email protected], or utilizing the E-reporting platforms available on the NAFDAC website at www.nafdac.gov.ng, as well as the Med-safety application available for download on Android and iOS.
