Ooni’s season of marriages
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, is undoubtedly in a season of family expansion as he added to his harem a new wife, Ashley Adegoke, who is his fourth, on October 14, 2022.
In viral videos online, the new Olori (Queen) was seen clad in white traditional bridal attire in a regal wedding that had traditional rulers, family members and well wishers of the couple in attendance.
It will be recalled that in September, the king announced in a statement that he had married Mariam Anako. This was after his marriage to Naomi Silekunola, who is a prophetess, failed in December 2021.
Shortly after his marriage to Anako, who is a Kogi State indigene, the monarch married Elizabeth Akinmudai in Magodo, Lagos. Thereafter, he took Tobiloba Philips as his wife on October 9, 2022. The ceremony was conducted by traditional chiefs. Philips is the Ooni’s third wife.
Before his marriage to Silekunola, the Ooni had been married two other times. He got married to Zynab Otiti in 2016 in Benin City, Edo State. However, the king and Otiti went their separate ways a year after the solemnisation of the union.
In 2008, before he became king, he got married to his first wife, Adebukola Bambota. They separated some years after.
No one knows if the Ooni is done yet adding to the number of his wives as there are rumours that he is set to wed his fifth and sixth wives soon.
