Organists, choir masters unify at 10

Body of organists and music directors, Guild of Organists of Nigeria, has marked its 10th anniversary.

Attendees were treated to classicals from choir groups, with scholars and enthusiasts seeking proper investment in music education.

It was formed in 2008 by veteran organists, who felt the need for a body to bring organists and choir masters together.

Membership grew from 60 to 300, including those in United Kingdom and United States.

National President, Dr. Samuel Ajose urged governments to provide enabling environment to facilitate music learning in schools.

He said: “It has been an interesting journey. We’ve recorded achievements. In celebrating 10 years, we urge members to foster unity and contribute to capacity building, national unity and development through organ playing and choir.

“Music plays a pivotal role in comforting people. Music has a huge power. For our guild, we perform what is called classical music.

“We have a body that will bring together professionals. We want government to provide enabling platforms. Instruments are expensive.

“Government can invest in schools by buying organs for pupils. This will help them mould their career.”
