OSHA lawmakers attend two-day capacity building training on Public Accountability
The speaker Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Adewale Egbedun has reiterated the commitment of his cabinet to Accountability since the inception of their term in office.
Honourable Adewunmi Adeyemi, Honourable representing Obokun constituency speaking on behalf of the Speaker, disclosed this at a 2-day capacity building training for Osun state Legislation on Public Accounting.
The two-day training organized by the Justice Development and Peace Makers Centre (JDPMC) in partnership with MISEREOR (Germany) is centred on strengthening citizens’ capacity for productive engagement towards Good Governance and the promotion of Human Rights in Osun State, Nigeria.
Hon. Adewumi added that the training is the second of its kind by the Justice Development and Peace Makers Centre (JDPMC) with the 26 Honourable of the 8th cabinet as the only participants.
The keynote Lecturer, Dr Adetunji Ogunyemi, PhD (History), PhD (Law). He is an Economic Historian and Public Affairs Analyst, Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU) delivered his lecture titled; “Legal Framework for public Accountability in Nigeria.
He reiterated the need for public accountability to the participant and as part of the aim of the presentation, he urged the lawmakers to identify a law that should be accounted for and begin to practice what they have learnt from the lecture.
Dr Ogunyemi also talked about the types of accountability. They are Parental, Governmental, Procedural, Legal, Political, Fiscal, Moral, Institutional and Environmental.
While delivering the second lecture, titled; “Legislative Powers and Privileges” He explained the need for Legislators to know the rights, powers and privileges enacted on legislators by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Dr Ogunyemi, stressed the power of the lawmakers in making a change and Impact in the political affairs of the state.
The 26 Honourable member of the OSHA, through the Honourable representing Obokun, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, while speaking to pressmen at the event assured that everything learnt will be definitely put into practice in the course of them serving the masses.
