OSHA proposes Osun State Electricity Market Regulatory Bill 2023 

The Osun State House of Assembly is set to consider “Osun State Electricity Market Regulatory Bill 2023” in order to enhance electricity in the state as a Bill.

 

During the proceedings of the plenary, Majority leader, Hon Kofoworola Adewumi while presenting it’s policy thrust “Osun State Electricity Market Regulatory Bill 2023

Speaking on the advantages, He mentioned that the bill when passed into law will create more job opportunities, enhance electricity generation, ensure expansion of electricity to neighbouring towns, protect electricity consumers from unnecessary bills, and encourage investor to Osun State when there’s legal framework.

 

In their various submissions, Hon Lawrence Adeoti, Hon Olawale Akerele, Hon Adewumi Adeyemi, Hon Kanmi Ajibola, Hon Tajudeen Adeyemi, Hon Laide Ajibola also aligned themselves with the points mentioned in the policy thrust adding that it will set standard for electricity consumption, improve the standard of living of the citizens, encourage private investors and access to avoidble electricity. They added that it will sustain Electricity supply, establish a regulatory body and boost the state’s Internal Generated Revenue.

 

The speaker after aligned himself with various contributions of the lawmakers and the bill passed second reading as moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Kofoworola Adewumi and seconded by Hon kasope Abolarin.

 

The speaker later committed the bill to House Committee on Water Resources and Energy in line with the provision of order 82 (1) of the House Standing Order.

 

Also, a private member bill sponsored by Hon Adewumi Adeyemi “Osun State Emergency Management Agency Establishment Amendment No 1 Bill 2025”.

 

According to the speaker, Rt Hon Adewale Egbedun, the bill seeks to introduce the sustainable financial legal framework within the existing legal framework of the OSEMA by establishing the regulated source.

 

The bill aimed to provide a reliable source of funding for emergency response, capacity building in Osun State and as well ensure financial transparency, accountability in the management of the management folks, plus, empower OSEMA to respond to emergencies without financial constraints.

 

In the same vein, another private member bill was sponsored by

Hon Abiola Ibrahim representing Irewole/Isokan State Constituency, Osun State Road Traffic and Vehicle Inspection Service Bill 2024.

 

The bill will provide a legal framework for vehicle inspection officers and also safeguard and protect commutters and in Osun State, urging the House to give the Bill an accelerated passage.

 

Still on the Order of the day, Osun State Islamic and Traditional Marriages Registration Bill 2024 and Osun State Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshots Bill 2024 passed first reading.

The speaker admonished colleagues to study both Bills in preparation for their policy thrusts.

 

The plenary also featured the birthday celebration of the clerk of the House, Mr Simeon Amusan who add another year.

Mr Simeon Amusan was described as a wonderful being, a versatile civil servant,

hardworking, competent and always ready to discharge his duties.
