OSHA Set to Screen Amotekun Nominated Commander, Others

The Osun State House of Assembly is ready to screen the Chairman and New Commander for Osun State Security Network Agency otherwise known as “Amotekun Corps”.

 

The speaker disclosed this on Monday during the plenary while reading the letter received from the governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, urging the Assembly to fastract every legislative matters on it.

 

AIG Wale Abass (Rtd) as the Chairman will now replace General Bashir Adewinbi (Rtd) who has been serving from the last administration and whose tenure of office lapsed last month.

 

Similarly, New Corps Commander has been appointed for the Amotekun Corps in person of Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Security, Hon Isaac Omoyele, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police and also a former Chief Security Officer to Governor Adeleke.

 

Hon Adewale Egbedun said

Osun State Security Agency Amotekun Network is a security network jointly formed by Southwest governors.

He added that it was set up to compliment the efforts of other Federal Security agencies to tackle crimes in the Southwest zone.

 

The speaker has directed the nominees to submit thirsty five copies of their Credentials and other relevant documents and appear for screening on Tuesday.

 

On Order of the day, item one, The speaker, Rt Hon Adewale Egbedun requested Hon Abiola Awoyeye representing Ife Central State Constituency to present the policy thrust of “Osun State Fire Service Establishment Bill 2024”.

 

In his presentation, Hon Abiola Awoyeye noted some of the importances of the bill which includes enhancement of response times, impacts economy, provides adequate framework among others.

 

He added that it is not wished but fire accident will always occur in the society cum environment, thus the reason for empowering the officers in the field.

He stressed that giving the bill an accelerated passage will eradicate most if not all challenges faced when the incident occure.

 

Hon Awoyeye also opined for establishment of more Fire stations across the state for as a symbol of safety, preparedness and protection, stressing that it’s the first line of defense in the face of emergencies.

 

Other contributors to the policy thrust includes, Hon Abiola Ibrahim, Hon Babajide Kofoworola, Hon Olumide Fatunmise, Hon Tajudeen Adeyemi and Hon Kasope Abolarin.

 

They submitted that the Bill will enhance public safety for the governed against any danger and hazards. They stressed that it will generate employment in the grassroots and generate more revenue to the state.

 

The lawmakers added that

when the bill is in place, the issue of promotion, budgeting, checking certificates among others will be properly addressed when the bill is passed, urging the house to give it a quick passage.

 

After various contributions from the members which pointed out numerous advantages, the speaker also aligned himself with contributors and asked the clerk, Mr Simeon Amusan to read the bill for the second time.

The House later dissolved into committee of a whole for further considerations, corrections and amendments on the ongoing “Osun State Local Government Amendment No 1 Bill 2024” and the House adjourned till Tuesday 16th July, 2024.
