OSHA to pass Osun State Employment Trust Fund Bill to law
Osun state House of Assembly presented the Osun State Employment Trust Fund Bill, 2023 for Second reading.
According to the reading, Statistics have shown that a large percentage of Osun State‘s population is between the ages of 15-40, and the unemployment rate in the state is climbing at the rate of 11.65%, while the rate of people whose full set of skills are not being utilised in the state is increasing at the rate of 26.68%.
The poverty rate in the state is also rising and needs to be checked so as not to increase youth restiveness and crime rate.
The Bill would help to engage and empower the employable population in Osun State for increased productivity.
- It will help the State to leverage the highly literate and large workforce with the youthful population for economic strength.
- It will help Osun State to transform its economy and tap into the full potential of its workforce and entrepreneurship.
- Establish a State Employment database to serve as a central information bug for persons seeking employment in the State and businesses seeking to employ State residents and indigenes.
- Modernise and upskill the workforce, making the State an attractive recruitment destination and significantly boosting internally generated revenue.
- It will lead to short-term and long-term improvements in the State’s economic performance and open opportunities for capital expenditure, infrastructure development, investments, and economic diversification.
- It will ensure that SMEs are supported to become more viable.
He submitted by admonishing his colleagues to give the bill an accelerated passage.
Honourable Olalekan Adeoti, Hon. Olawale Akerele and Hon. Tajudeen Adeyemi in their separate contributions supported the bill but emphasized the efforts to ensure it is adequately implemented.
The motion was moved by Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi and seconded by Hon. Sanmi Araoye and the clerk read the Bill for the Second Time.
Still sitting, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, presented some petitions, he received against the Provost of the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun on allegations of financial recklessness and misappropriation.
He therefore, created a 5-man committee to look into the petition, the committee consist of the following Honourable.

Meanwhile, Hon. Kashope Ajibade Abolarin made a presentation of private member bill.
He presented the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board (Ammendment) Bill, 2023.
Similarly, Osun New Towns and Growth Areas Development Authority Establishment (Repeal) Bill, 2023 passed the Third Reading.
The motion for the bill to become a law was moved by Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi and seconded by Hon. Diran Olatunbosun.
Consequently, a bill for a law to Repeal the Osun New Towns and Growth Development Authority Establishment Law 2022 and for other connected purposes was read by the Clerk to the House.
Osun State High Court and Customary Court of Appeal Registrars, Secretary to the State Judicial Service Commission, Solicitor-General of the Ministry of Justice, State Magistrates and District Customary Court Presidents Retirement Age Bill, 2023 – Committee of Whole was dissolved.
Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi moved a motion that the house dissolved into the committee of the whole and was seconded by Hon. Diran Olatunbosun.
The House consequently dissolved into the Committee of the Whole and some amendments were made to the Bill.
Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi then moved a motion that the Honourable Speaker report the progress made at the committee of Whole to the House, and it was seconded by Hon. Abiola Awoyeye.
Consequently, the Honourable Speaker reported the progress made at the Committee of Whole and Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi moved the motion that the report form parts of the Bill and it was seconded by Hon. Olujimi Asagade.
