Osun 2026: PDP, NNPP Trade Words Over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Reelection
The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has declared its intention to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election, prompting a strong rebuttal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During the inauguration of its offices in Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun Local Government Areas on Thursday, Osun NNPP Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the forthcoming election. Odeyemi highlighted dissatisfaction with the current PDP administration and the nation’s economic challenges as catalysts for the NNPP’s ambition.
“Our chances of winning Osun State in the 2026 poll are very bright. The NNPP has made significant progress since its inception. The ongoing economic hardship is discrediting the APC at the national level, while the PDP administration in Osun struggles to demonstrate effective governance. This presents a clear opportunity for us to end Adeleke’s reign,” Odeyemi stated.
He urged party members to remain committed, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to succeed. Odeyemi was joined at the event by Ekiti State NNPP Chairman Edward Ayeni and Ogun State NNPP Publicity Secretary Omokehinde Olowu.
In response, the PDP dismissed the NNPP’s claims as unfounded. PDP Director of Media and Publicity, Oladele Bamiji, defended Governor Adeleke’s administration, asserting that its achievements would guarantee his reelection.
“The NNPP’s assertions are baseless and driven by the need to satisfy their sponsors. They lack the capacity to stop Senator Ademola Adeleke’s reelection in 2026. The people of Osun are witnessing unprecedented progress under this administration, and no party can derail this momentum. They should save their resources and energy,” Bamiji said.
The PDP remains confident that the governor’s record in office will resonate with voters in 2026, ensuring another term for Adeleke
