Osun Assembly Advances Key Bills on Gunshot Victims’ Care, Communal Peacebuilding, and Judicial Bills

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has today, 14th of April, advanced a number of bills for first reading, second reading, and policy thrust.

 

The following bills passed their first reading: Osun State Customary Court of Appeal Establishment (Amendment) Bill 2025, Osun State District Customary Court and Customary Court Establishment (Amendment) Bill 2025, and Osun State Bill Discretion Bill 2025.

Honourable Awoyeye Jeremiah, while presenting the policy thrust on the Osun State Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Bill, said the bill will protect hospitals in the course of their duties towards victims.

While delivering the policy thrust of the Osun State Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Bill, he reiterated the right to life as a citizen of Nigeria.

He added that the bill would encourage volunteers to help gunshot victims and also protect and safeguard hospitals whenever they treat any gunshot victim within the state.

Honourable Kasope Abolarin, representing Ifedayo, said the first priority of the Government is health and safety, so with this bill, it will ensure the safety of citizens at all lengths.

 

Also, Hon. Adewunmi Adeyemi, representing Obokun State Constituency, said the bill will help every citizen, be it a criminal or not, to be treated medically in any form of victim situation within the state, because the safety of life matters to the Governor.

Similarly, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi IREKANDU, who sponsored the Osun State Communal Crisis Management and Peacebuilding Bill 2025, delivered the policy thrust.

while presenting the policy thrust on the Osun State Communal Crisis Management and Peacebuilding Bill 2025, said the bill will curb and prevent crises from happening between communities within the state.

He stressed further that the bill will give the state the ability to gather data from all communities in the state to help the government and security agencies to know the situation on ground before it escalates and gets out of control.

 

Hon. Lawrence Adeoti, representing Ife South State Constituency, and Hon. Abiola Jeremiah, representing Ife Central State Constituency, emphasized that if passed into law, the bill will assist the government in promoting peace and harmony between communities within the state.

 

After various contributions from the Honourable members concerning the two bills, the Speaker, Rt. Honourable Adewale Egbedun, aligned with other contributors and agreed that the two bills will be given accelerated passage, and both bills sailed through the second reading.

 

The Osun State Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Bill and Osun State Communal Crisis Management and Peacebuilding Bill 2025 sailed through the second reading.

 

Moreover, the Osun State Customary Court of Appeal Establishment (Amendment) Bill, Osun State District Customary Courts and Customary Courts Establishment (Amendment) Bill, and Osun State Bail Discretion Bill 2025 passed through the first reading.

 

The three private bills were sponsored by Honourable Olakanmi Ajibola, Honourable representing Oriade State Constituency.

Earlier, Hon. representing Ayedaade, Hon. Folorunso Ogundare solicited that dialogue be facilated to look into the crisis between the forestry department, ministry of environment and ministry of Agriculture. While Hon. representing Iwo, Hon. Adesina Rabiu pleaded For The intervention on land disputes and safety of live of dwellers in his constituency.
