Osun Assembly Introduces Three New Justice Bills

Osun Assembly today, 8th April 2025, presided and presented three Private Member Bills geared towards justice and the judiciary.
Rt. Hon. Speaker Adewale Egbedun, while anchoring the plenary session of the House, presented the Private Member Bills: Osun State District Customary Courts and Customary Courts Establishment (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Osun State Customary Court of Appeal Establishment (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and Osun State Bail Discretion Bill, 2025.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, while introducing the three Private Member Bills sponsored by Hon. Kanmi Ajibola, the Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petition and Legal Matters, who represents the good people of Oriade Constituency, said the bills will expand the jurisdiction of the court, reduce congestion in the Osun State High Court and correctional centers, and enhance quick dispensation of justice.
The plenary also featured the Policy Trust for Osun State Multi-Door Court Out Establishment Bill, 2023, which was presented by Hon. Olufemi Popoola. According to him, the bill, when passed into law, will reduce delayed justice, minimize citizens’ frustration in getting justice, enhance fair hearing, and allow access to justice across the state.
The lawmakers, in their various contributions, affirmed that the bill will ensure a robust judicial system and thereby urged the House to give the bill accelerated passage.
The bill was read the second time on the floor of the House, while the House dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for further consideration of Osun State Property Protection Bill, 2023.
