Osun first lady unveils campaign to combat hypertension, diabetes

The wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, has called on the state’s residents to take advantage of the free testing sponsored by the Governors’ Forum and the World Health Organisation to get screened for diabetes and hypertension.

Adeleke spoke in Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday at the launch of ‘Project 10 Million,’ a national health campaign aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians for hypertension and diabetes.

The Osun First Lady, who also underwent screening at the event, noted that the initiative was part of the effort to combat the rising prevalence of hypertension and diabetes in the country.

She stated that the two ailments accounted for approximately 27% of Nigeria’s annual deaths.

“Project 10 Million is a critical health initiative aimed at addressing the growing impact of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and diabetes.

“These diseases pose a serious threat to the well-being of our communities, contributing to 27% of all annual deaths in Nigeria.
Seventeen percent of Nigerians between the ages of 30 and 70 are likely to die from these diseases. There is an urgent need for action to combat these diseases in our society.
