Our Governor Is A Democrat, Not A Dictator — Osun Speaker, Egbedun

Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, has declared that the state’s Governor, Senator Jackson Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke is a democrat and not a dictator.
This declaration is coming following a bias advice from the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, Lateef Fagbemi, urging the governor to reschedule the already planned local government election in the state.
Egbedun described the AGF’s counsel as “destructive to democracy,” asserting that it undermines the electoral process.
In his address to the people of Osun State who have prepared for the local government election, Egbedun commended them for their patience and maturity in handling challenges posed by invaders.
“Your resilience is a testament to the strength of our community and our unwavering commitment to peace,” he stated.
He praised the governor for prioritising the well-being of the people over political gains, saying, “This commitment is not just a reflection of his character but is also a significant reason why the electorates hold him in such high regard.”
While expressing gratitude to national stakeholders who have voiced concerns regarding the situation, Egbedun criticised the AGF’s bias.
“This advice has had no impact on our commitment to ensuring a fair electoral process. The governor does not possess the autocratic power to halt the operations of an independent electoral body, especially one that has been preparing for elections for over 300 days.”
Egbedun commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for their readiness to conduct the upcoming elections and expressed appreciation for security personnel who have acted professionally during this time.
“Your dedication to maintaining peace and order in our state is commendable,” he said.
As the local government elections approach, Egbedun urged citizens to come out and vote, declaring, “Let me reiterate: the LG election will take place, and nothing will stop it.”
He called on political parties and candidates to conduct themselves with integrity, stating, “This is a time for democracy to shine, and we must all play our part in ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process.”
