Phone kidnapper seek ransom in bitcoin – FUNAAB

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, FUNAAB is under threat as students now experience phone kidnapper who seek bitcoin in return for their phones and other valuables stolen.

A past victims, a student of FUNAAB, said the suspect usually receives payment through Bitcoin in exchange for the stolen phones in order not to be traced.

Speaking with a student who is One of the victims, Akinbode Akinlabi. He said the amount paid as ransom was determined by the value of the iPhone, adding that there was no single student’s residential area outside the premises of the school that the suspect had not robbed.

He said, suspect stole his phone by tearing the net of his room window and removed the phone from where I he was charging it and then dropped a paper by the window that he should message him on telegram.

Students of FUNAAB said this practice has been on for over two years and because the affected students stay off-campus, there is nothing the school authority could do about it. He has robbed several students and the least he collects as ransom is $100.

The students, while complaining over the development, urged the state police to look into the issue with immediate effect.
