Reactions As Minister Rolls Out Tricycles To Empower Women

Nigerians on social media are reacting to the release of 30 tricycles and sewing machines by the Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, as part of her women empowerment scheme.

Ohanenye took to her X handle on Tuesday night, November 7, to announce that the tricycles and sewing machines will be released to women to empower them.

While speaking to newsmen, the Minister who was excited by her initiative said that this will reduce nagging in homes as women will be able to feed their husbands and children and also be able to save some money.

On her X handle, she wrote;

‘In practical fulfilment of my earlier resolve to reduce the rate of unemployment and also to ensure sustainable empowerment of women is the Introduction of the Pink Riders Transport Scheme and upgrade of our sewing factory.

Today, I received the first batch of branded Tricycles and industrial sewing machines.

The pilot scheme of these machines especially the Pink Riders will start from Abuja before we extend to other states.

This is an era of walking our talks because Nigeria must succeed.

Nigerians have since taken to social media to react with many berating her for thinking of tricycles and sewing machines as means to empower women.

They opined that there are better ways to empower women than giving them tricycles and sewing machines.
