Residents Scoop Fuel From Fallen Tanker in Cross River

Residents of the Akamkpa area of Cross River State have been captured scooping fuel from a fallen tanker on the roadside, risking their lives in the process.

This incident occurred just days after a deadly tanker explosion in Jigawa State, raising concerns about public safety around fuel-laden vehicles.

The incident in Akamkpa was captured in a video shared on X.com on Thursday.

The video shows residents gathering around the overturned tanker, siphoning fuel into various containers, including kegs and buckets, with little regard for the potential danger.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has repeatedly emphasized the importance of tanker safety inspections.

Tankers are not permitted to load without undergoing strict safety checks, yet concerns over the increasing number of tanker-related accidents persist.

This comes on the heels of a tragic explosion in Majia, Jigawa State, on October 15, where a petrol-laden truck traveling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State exploded, causing a lot of deadly casualties.

Authorities continue to warn the public about the dangers of tampering with fuel tankers, especially after such accidents, as the risk of explosion remains high.
