Six die in Ogun tanker, car head-on collision
Six persons have been killed in a head-on collision that occured between a gas-laden tanker and a Volvo car on the Idi-Iroko-Ota road, Ogun State.
The registration numbers of the vehicles involved in the accident were not visible owing to the nature of the crash.
The accident occurred around 1:30pm on Monday.
The Federal Road Safety Corps’ Public Education Officer, Ogun sector command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.
Okpe said a total of eight persons were involved in the accident.
According to her, two persons were rescued with injuries while six persons died and were trapped under the crashed vehicles.
She said the incident was caused by wrongful overtaking which she said led to head-on collision.
She said, “The crash occurred at about 1320hrs, involving two vehicles with registration numbers not visible due to the nature of the crash.
“The two vehicles make are Volvo 626 and a tanker laden with gas.
“A total of eight persons were involved, two persons were rescued with injuries and six persons recorded dead and trapped under the crashed vehicle.
“The suspected cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking which led to head-on collision.
“The gas is spilling out seriously making the rescue operation difficult
“The injured victims were taken to hospital for medical attention.
“The fire service were contacted immediately, the scene of the crash has been coned off to avert secondary crash.
“The FRSC operatives are fully on the ground managing the situation and making effort to remove the trapped bodies.
“Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, remain calm , cooperate with FRSC personnel pending when the situation is put to order.”
